Timber Frame Resort

What purpose do membranes serve in a tropical paradise like the Maldives? Surely all we need is a swimsuit and a hammock swaying gently between two palm trees? Of course, but if our aim is to create a resort complete with all the amenities and built to last, then it's imperative that the structure be protected against water and humidity, particularly if it enjoys a seaside location.

It rains even in the Maldives, and especially during the wet season (from May through November). That’s why the roof needs to be waterproofed using a bituminous membrane like BYTUM BASE 2500, offering the advantage of being laid without the use of open flames or heat thanks to its self-adhesive mix and polyester surface finish, ensuring a perfectly self-sealing membrane.

And while it might not rain on the walls, they certainly can’t escape the sea spray and strong humidity. The best solution is a waterproof and breathable membrane like TRASPIR FELT EVO UV 210, which protects the underlying timber while allowing any internal moisture to escape. Its functional monolithic polymer layer ensures breathability without making the membrane susceptible to UV radiation, unlike microporous membranes. As in this case, it is normally laid together with the double-sided tape DOUBLE BAND.

To achieve impeccable waterproofing and airtightness, the joints were sealed with FACADE BAND UV tape (at the points most exposed to sunlight), while NAIL PLASTER | GEMINI sealing tape ensured the full hermetic sealing of the membranes at the screw penetrations.
